Govt.Ayurveda College Hospital for Women and Children, Poojappura a unique model under the Government of Kerala  as both Ayurveda and Modern System function under the same roof extending services to Gynaecology , Obstetrics and Paediatrics. This institution was established on 26.10.1955.  The integrative care provided in the hospital is one of its kind in government sector in Kerala. The OPD and IPD Department of Prasuti Streeroga and the Dept of Kaumarabhritya under Govt.Ayurveda College, Thiruvananthapuram  is functioning in this campus.

 

There are O P & I P facilities available in the hospital. There are 106 beds in the IP section .20 beds for allopathic wing and 80 beds for ayurveda wing. Out of this 3 are in pay wards & 10 are in paying wards. Out of 80 beds in ayurvedic section – 60 is for Dept of Prasuti Tantra & Streeroga , 20 for Dept of Koumarabhritya. A Post Partum sterilization unit, Child Physiotherapy unit, Ultra Sonogram unit , Ayurvedic & Allopathic medical Store, Canteen and a Laboratory Unit functioning in this Campus. Importance of this Institution is that it is the first maternity Hospital of eastern region of Trivandrum district, where Ayurvedic & Allopathic system go hand in hand. Two Post Graduate courses and PhD studies are going on in this institution. They are MS Prasuti Tantra-Streeroga and MD Koumarabrithya.

    Patient Services

    OPD

    There are separate OPD for Ayurveda and Modern medicine. In Ayurvedic wing two separate OPD are functioning for the departments of Prasuthitantra-Streeroga and Koumarabrithya. An average of 70 patients is attending the Prasuthi-Streeroga OPD everyday. Special antenatal& postnatal clinic and Infertility clinic are functioning. V

    IPD

    There are 106 beds in the IP section .Out of this 60 beds are for Dept. of Prasuti Tantra and Streeroga, 20 beds for Dept of Kaumarabhritya. 20 beds are for Allopathy Unit , 10 bed each for Paediatrics and OBG Department.6 beds areexclusively for Post Partum Sterilsation Unit.

    PG Scholars are posted in each units – 2 from each batch ie from 1st, 2nd & 3rd years and are rotated every three months. House surgeons are also posted in one unit for a month.

    PATIENT FACILITIES

    Ultrasound sonogram unit

    There is facility for Ultra Sound Scanning in the hospital. USG is carried out on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at very affordable rates. In the year 2018-2019, 3162 patients underwent scanning in this facility. Post Graduate Scholars are posted in order to gain knowledge in Ultra Sound Scanning.

    Colposcopy unit
    Colposcopy unit associated with this department also works well. It helps the early diagnosis of precancerous lesions of cervix in many patients. Many patients took advantage of this facility and suspected cases were sent for further investigations.
    Labour room
    A well equipped labour room is arranged in this hospital. All the medicines to conduct a labour is stored in the labour room
    Labour cases
    In the year 2018 -2019 , there were 253 deliveries in total out of which 184 were Full Term Normal Vaginal Deliveries, 69 were LSCS(Lower Segment Caesarean Section)
    Post partum sterilisation unit
    In the P.P unit post partum sterilisation, D&C,Copper T insertion and M.T.P are performed.
    Laboratory
    A well equipped laboratory is there in the hospital. Almost all blood investigations including HbsAg, VDRL, HIV; urine investigations; card test for pregnancy etc were done at free of cost for the poor patients.

    P.G Scholars

    The Department of  Prasuti-Streeroga has 18 PG Scholars and 2 PG Diploma students.It is also a Department for PhD studies.
